Geshela speaks fluent English and will speak on Secular Ethics, a branch of moral philosophy in which ethics is based solely on human faculties such as logic, empathy, reason or moral intuition. Please do not miss this rare opportunity.

Brief CV
Geshe Ngawang Samten obtained his master’s degree from the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies (CIHTS), Sarnath, Varanasi and subsequently the Geshe Lharampa’s degree (the highest Tibetan traditional degree equivalent to PhD) from Gaden Monastic University, India.
He worked as Associate Professor in the Research Department and later as a Professor in the Department of Buddhist Philosophy in CIHTS thereafter. Since 2001 he served as the Director and Vice Chancellor of the same institute for over 20 years.
He served as Visiting Professor at Amherst College, Smith College and Hampshire College, MA, USA, University of Tasmania, Australia.
He served as an active member in various important committees of the Central Tibetan Administration, Dharamsala, Various Ministries of the Indian Government, Indian National Academic bodies and Indian and foreign universities.
He has critically edited and translated many classical works of Indian and Tibetan masters. He has contributed articles to special publications and books. He widely lectured at various important forums and universities in the USA, Europe, Australia, Taiwan, Thailand, Russia, Korea and India.
He was honoured with Padma Shri, one of the highest Indian civilian national awards, by the President of India in recognition of his contribution to Education and Literature in 2009. He was honoured with Vesak Samman in 2016 by the Government of India in recognition for his outstanding contribution to the preservation, development and promotion of Indian philosophy,arts and culture within and outside India, as well as his lifelong achievements in the services towards disseminating Buddhist studies and establishing academic institutions.
