    18 MAY, SAT

    Tsog Offering

Lama Chopa Prayer and Guru Yoga practice. The prayer consists of making offerings and requesting the blessing of Buddhas to all sentient beings and the inspiration from the Spiritual Teacher (Guru). This practice unites our minds and the mind of the Guru in order to receive blessings and generate realizations on the path to enlightenment. A Tsog offering helps to restore degenerated spiritual vows and commitment.

    19 MAY, SUN
    11:30am – 3:30pm
    Confession and Vajrasattva practice

These days epidemics and wars seem to continuously torment many parts of our world. This is the collective karmic result of the past non-virtuous action accumulated by sentient beings. In order to quickly purify that, we all need to increase the two accumulations of Merit and Wisdom of all sentient beings. The supreme method for accomplishing this is the practice of Vajrasattva and confession to 35 Buddhas.

No meat, eggs, garlic for the whole day.

    23 MAY, THU
    6:30 – 8pm
    Full Tara Prayer

Remove all obstacles and to pray for accomplishment of all our aspirations.

    2024-03-31 summary:

Example of real practitioner is Ama la, in the ten years I have been in Calgary I have never seen her complain about her family responsibilities, or anytime when we are called to attend a person in the community for illness or death, she is always ready to go. This is the real benefit for you all of practice is a higher tolerance and a more spacious mind with a kinder heart.

With the Guru Yoga verses we must learn to have an intense longing for freedom from samsara, to learn to be free of afflictions.

What it means to think well is to understand that when things go well it is due to our past merit and the Buddha Dharma, now while we have this precious human life we need to double our efforts, work even harder and always remember impermanence. We also must remember that as long as we are in samsara there will be suffering.  Due to karma, there will be good things and bad things and with more practice we can remain in equanimity.

Things we shouldn’t fear or be angry about we are – weather, small things, and what we really should be frightened of are the 3 poisons – desire, anger, ignorance – this is what can destroy us completely.  We can’t worry about others, we need to point to ourselves we have to check ourselves, not only for this life, but for countless lives in the future.  We have to remember as Buddha Shakyamuni said that our enemies are the 3 poisons within sentient beings, and that there is no sentient being that is our enemy.

    co-operating conditions

Spelling (jorlok; Tib. སྦྱོར་ཀློག་) and pronunciation:
    ལྷན་ – la ha-tak hla na hlen
ཅིག་ – ca gigu ci ga cig (chik)
བྱེད་ – ba ya-tak ja drengbu je da je
    པའི་ – pa a gigu i pe
རྐྱེན་ – ra ka-tak ka ya-tak kya drengbu kye na kyen
    hlen chik je pe kyen

From class, we discussed results that do and don’t use the
co-operating conditions of soil and water, such as a tree and fire, respectively.

Geshe la encourages us to learn Tibetan to help gain deeper
understanding of the teachings, and gain access to prayers and rituals that have not been translated. The Tibetan word of the day is offered to give regular exposure to Tibetan reading and vocabulary.
