Dear friend,
There is no teaching this Sunday February 14th; however at 1:00 pm Geshe la will start with the auspicious prayer for the lunar new year, to be followed by a potluck meal. Around 3:30 pm HH Neten Rinpoche will call in and talk to us.

If you have not filled out the survey, please take some time to complete it (see previous post). It takes less than 5 minutes. Your suggestions and preferences are very important to our temple’s success.

Looking forward to see you this Sunday.

  • Tibetan word of the day: གཞི་གྲུབ་

    གཞི་གྲུབ་

    Established basis

Spelling (jorlok; Tib. སྦྱོར་ཀློག་) and pronunciation:
    གཞི་ – ga-o zha gigu zhi
གྲུབ་ – ga ra-tak dra zhabkyu dru ba drub
    zhi drub

    From class notes:

“First, what must be understood is this: the established basis (Tib. གཞི་གྲུབ་ gzhi grub), object of knowledge (Tib. ཤེས་བྱ་ shes bya), existence (Tib. ཡོད་པ་ yod pa), and phenomena (Tib. ཆོས་ chos) are all of one meaning.

The meaning of an established basis is that which is established by valid cognition (Skt. pramāṇa).”

Geshe la encourages us to learn Tibetan to help gain deeper
understanding of the teachings, and gain access to prayers and rituals that have not been translated. The Tibetan word of the day is offered to give regular exposure to Tibetan reading and vocabulary.
