July/August Special Events – Stupa Visit and Picnic, August Break

Universal Peace Prayer and His Holiness Dalai Lama’s Birthday Celebration
Sunday July 9, 2017 at 10:30am

Jam Tse Cho Ling Tibetan Buddhist Temple invites you all to celebrate Zamling Chi Sang (Universal Peace Prayer Day). This event is a Tibetan national festival to celebrate the subjugation by Great Tantric Master Padmasambhava of evil that beset Tibet. It falls on the fifteenth (full moon) day of the fifth Lunar month and is marked by extensive prayers accompanied by offerings of Sang, (a practice of offering fragrant incense smoke) to all the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, local deities and elemental gardens of earth, water, fire and wind.

This year Zamling Chi Sang falls on Sunday, July 9. On this day we will also celebrate His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 82 Birthday. Our precious teacher Geshe Trinly Gyatso la will lead this ceremony and offer intensive prayers so that all the violence and suffering that beset our city and world will come to an end. There is not charge to attend this event and we invite you all to join us in praying for the world peace.

Please bring a snack for a potluck lunch afterwards. Also, it would be a good idea to bring a lawn chair, and other necessities such as sun screen.

Please arrive at the Stupa at 10:30am. If you need a carpool, we will be departing from the temple at 10am.
The Stupa is at 470 85 St SW, Calgary, AB T3H 4E4
The temple is at 96 Whitehaven Cres. NE

We would also appreciate help with setting up (altar, tent). If you would like to volunteer for helping setup, please contact Lynn.

Full Moon Tara Prayer – Jan. 12th

Hello Dharma Friends,

For the coming week, Geshe la would like to have a Full Moon Tara Prayer on Thursday, January 12th at 7PM. It will be very auspicious to start the new year with full Tara practice and we will also pray for peace and harmony for the world. This replaces the regular scheduled prayer for that week, which would normally be on Tuesday.

For the Full Tara prayer, please

  • bring your vajra and bell if you have them
  • bring offerings for the altar: flowers, fruits or cookies made without eggs or animal fats.
  • avoid eating meat, eggs, onions or garlic during the day until after the prayers.

Thank you,
